In response to the curatorial theme “P·L·A·C·E” and the site of a former men’s public bathhouse, I imagine the words once spoken by people bathing here flowing away, then lingering with the steam and being absorbed into the walls. These traces are distilled into unit words beginning with numbers, which emerge from the wall surfaces. In this project, I dismantled a book on astronomy and mythology into individual pages. At the beginning of each page, I printed the phrase “Here there is,” and at the end, “a me.” These pages were assembled into a tissue-pack-sized object and mixed among ordinary tissue packs in a tissue vending machine. When visitors purchase tissues on site, they unexpectedly receive a material kit titled “A Sonnet Dedicated to Yourself.” Using this kit, visitors are invited to select their own unit words from the wall and compose a sonnet for themselves.
